Madeline Harlow

This website

I've always wanted to learn how to build a website from scratch and in efforts to assist my job search and upskill, I decided to build this portfolio website. This project summary highlights the tools I used and lessons I learned while trying to be a full stack web developer.

Project overview

  • Start date: 12.10.2023

  • Launch date: 31.10.2023

  • Company: Personal

  • Team: Independent

  • Skills and tools used: web design in Figma, backend deployment in Cloudflare, frontend development in HTML/CSS using Visual Studio Code and Tailwind, media creation in Canva and Figma, Google Analytics, and Upwork to hire a freelancer for code review.

Project details

First I purchased my domain from namecheap.com and configured the settings so I can use Cloudflare to run my server and backend pipeline. Next I configured my email to run through Zoho and got started on designing. I wanted to get more familiar with Figma , so I opted for self designing instead of using a template which also meant I would need to do the frontend programming from scratch as well. Luckily Google is very much my friend and I could find all the Tailwind code snipits I needed to roughly match the blocks I designed.
Once I went live with the skeleton website, the next step was to fill it with project content, just like this page right here.
When my frontend wasn't matching my design as well as I wanted, I decided to speak with a freelancer from Upwork for 1.5 hours to quickly smooth out all of the nuances I wanted to fix. This was a huge time and effort saver and I am so glad I did that (thank you Bethelehem!).
Now that my website is live with my content, I will refer to it during my job search and keep it up to date as best as I can.
